The University System of Georgia Mental Health Summit
The University System of Georgia’s Mental Health Initiative was created to expand mental health resources and support to our student community. The mission of the consortium expands this effort by creating a forward-looking system-wide approach to consistent and sustainable mental health and well-being support.
Background and Purpose:
In November of 2021, nearly 150 faculty, staff and students from across the University System of Georgia came together to gain an understanding of the unique challenges surrounding mental health issues within higher education, particularly in light of COVID-19. Through engaging keynote speakers, collaborative conversations, and institutional discussions attendees explored how to most effectively address the mental health needs of their campuses.
On February 20-21, 2023 we will reconvene for our second USG Mental Health Summit! The purpose of this year’s Summit is to address the sustainability of institutional and systemwide mental health and well-being support. Through invited keynote speakers, breakout presentations from experts within USG, and expanded institutional discussions, attendees will be invited to consider plans for connection, innovation, and sustainability to ensure the positive impact of the Mental Health Initiative continues for years to come.
Objectives:
- Attendees will reflect on the importance of community building (e.g. institutional and systemwide partnerships) and how to maintain Institutional teams to discuss and address mental health challenges unique to their institutions.
- Attendees will learn programmatic and procedural best practices for various JED Campus recommendations.
- Attendees will identify the mental health and well-being needs addressed through the Mental Health Initiative and explore next steps for continued support.
Attendees:
Each institution is invited to bring up to 10 attendees. Suggested attendees include: Institutional MHI Point of Contact, Institutional JED Leaders, Academic Affairs representative, Student Affairs representative, Marketing and Communications, Campus Police, Disability Services, Health/Counseling Center, Student Government Association leaders, and Veterans Affairs.
